Catching Fire is one of the best books I have ever read. It has everything you would want in a book. It has lots of violence, suspense, and even a love story. No matter what genera of book you like you could probably find it in Catching Fire. So if you like any of the things I mentioned you should start the Hunger Games series and I promise you will love it.
Katniss was never afraid to do what she had to do. Even when it looked like she would have no way out she never gave up. She was willing to do anything to protect her loved ones. Even if it meant risking her life in the woods everyday for food or volunteering as tribute for her little sister. She never let all of her burdens and responsibilities bring her down or stop her from doing what she had to do. No matter how high the odds were stacked up against her she continued to fight.
Katniss used a mockingjay pin as her district token in her first Hunger Games and again in her second. Because of what she did in her Hunger Games, this taken became the symbol of the rebellion. The rebellion started because of Katniss so the saw her as their leader even though she was only the face of it. The lashing out against the Capitol had gotten worse when Katniss was placed in the 75th Hunger Games. When that happened the districts started attacking the peacekeepers. As the games went on the rebellion became worse and worse. There were tributes within the games that allied themselves with Katniss so they could protect her until they were broken out. When she was broken out she found out that the rebellion was happening in all of the districts now. She was told that they were going to District 13 which was were every strategic attack was planed  so that they could overthrow the Capitol.

Ever since Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute for her little sister Primin the 74th Hunger Games the people of Panem have been watching her closely. She had always been the odd one out in the Capitol because it was hard for her to relate to these people who dress and act so differently. These people who have never had to go a day without a meal or fight for their food. When she pulled the nightlock out of her pocket at the end of the 74th Hunger Games to force the gamemakers to crown both her and Peeta victors people thought she was rebelling against the Capitol. At this point she had ignited a "spark" that grows into a rebellion against the Capitol. When she is forced to fight in the 75th Hunger Games President Snow "convinces" her to try and put out the rebellion. But giving Katniss more air time on the TV only made it grow. By the end of Catching Fire there is an all out rebellion against the Capitol the Katniss started.

In all of the books of the Hunger Game series Katniss does everything she can to protect Prim. When Prim's name is drawn at the reaping she volunteers to take Prim's place as tribute. President Snow threatened her family and she did evrything she could to protect them. When she finds out she will have to fight in the Hunger Games again she knows she won't live through this one because she vows to herself that she will protect Peeta no matter what because he saved her life in the 74th Hunger Games. Peeta is also determined to do anything he can to make sure Katniss comes back alive. When Haymitch's name is drawn he immediately volunteers as tribute so that he can protect her from within the games.
The hover crafts are used by the Capitol for many things. They use it to transport the tributes to the arena for the Hunger Games. During the Hunger Games they take the dead tributes from the arena once everyone has left the area. They are also used to capture people who have escaped from their district in the woods. After the Hunger Games concludes it take the winner to the capitol and while on board they are given medical care. The rebels use them to break Katniss and her allies out of the arena at the end of Catching Fire. Once the force field is down they drive it in, pick up the tributes they need for the rebellion and the leave. They are headed to District 13 which was thought to be destroyed but is actually the headquarters for the rebellion.
The "Lightning Tree" in the arena was used to escape. At midnight and noon lightning hits this tree as one of the trap set in the arena. Beetee had the idea to wrap some wire around the tree and put the other end of the wire in the water. He tells Katniss that this is how he plans to kill the Careers that have their camp set up on the beach. The plan is that when the wave hit the beach the beach will still be wet at noon when the lightning hits the tree. When the lightning hit the tree the electricity will travel through the wire in to the water. This will electrocute the tributes on the wet beach. But the actual plan was to overload the force field so Haymitch could come in with the hovercraft and take them out of the arena.

In the first two books Katniss has to act a certain way to impress the people of the Capitol. She is forced to dress a certain way so that she belongs with those people. She is told that she needs to act a certain way other wise she will look weird and not fit in. In this book she has to stage a fake proposal with Peeta and do photo shoots in different dresses. She is forced to put on a happy face to save her family.Throughout the entire time she spends in the Capitol she is forced to fake it.

This is the nightlock that started everything. Katniss pulled these berries out of her pocket to have Peeta and her kill themselves at the end of the 74th Hunger Games. This was seen as an act of defiance against the Capitol. The people of Panem started to rebel against the capitol. At first it was little things but it started to get bigger and bigger. Katniss told President Snow it was because of her undying love towards Peeta. President Snow told her if she cannot convince him that this is true then he will kill her family. So throughout this entire book up until the end she is trying to convince President Snow that she truly loves Peeta.
The arena in the 75th Hunger Games is in the shape of a clock. At the end of the victory tour in the capitol Katniss dances with the new head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. During the dance Plutarch makes a point to show Katniss his Watch. Katniss thinks it might be a clue to the arena but doesn't think to hard about it. In the arena the 12 sections have a different type of trap. During the sections hour in the day that trap is released upon the tributes only in its section of the arena. Most of these traps are physical such as waves or killer monkeys. But some of these traps are mental such as the mockingjays that sound like the tributes loved ones in pain.
This song is a good representation of the rebellion. The rebellion starts to break out during this book because the people don't like how the Capitol is treating them. They don't think they are getting what they deserve for how hard they work. Katniss is the symbol for the rebellion because of what she did in the 74th Hunger Games. When the people of Panem see her fight it makes them want to stand up for themselves. Katniss ignites the fire of the rebellion that changes everything.

When Finnick Odair and Katniss first met Katniss did not like him very much. She did not want to be his ally in the games because she did not trust him. The reason she kept him around was because Peeta wanted him to stay and he was a useful ally to have. He aligned himself with Katniss so he could protect her. He needed her alive because she was the symbol of the rebellion that he was helping to start. If Katniss had died then everything they were trying to succeed with the rebellion would have been for nothing. He had also revived Peeta while in the arena because he knew if Peeta had died Katniss would have given up. This had confused Katniss as to why he did it but he could explain why because everyone in the Capitol and all of the districts were watching them.

Haymitch is District 12's mentor. He is responsible for getting the tributes sponsor while they are in the games. He will campaign to get them things they might need in the arena to survive. He plays an even more important role in this book because he helps break some of the tributes out of the arena . The reason they want these certain tributes out of the arena is so they can start a rebellion against the Capitol. The tributes that aligned themselves with Katniss and Peeta were there to protect them until it was time to break them out.  Before the Hunger Games started Finnick and Haymitch created a way for Finnick to give Haymitch information while Finnick was in the games. This way Haymitch was able to get everything together before they were ready to break them out.
This video relates really well with this series in a hole. In the chorus of the song it talks about survival of the fittest. That is exactly what the Hunger Games is all about. The walks away with their life and that's everything. Eminem talks about never giving up and fighting until the end. If you give up then you have no chance to win and will die. Katniss never gave up on herself even if the odds were stacked against her.

Peeta Mellark was chosen as the male tribute from District 12 for the 75th Hunger Games. In the first book he was just the baker's son. Katniss had some connection to him because there was one time when he had given her bread when she really needed it. but that was before their first Hunger Games. When they were placed in the Hunger Games together they developed a bond with each other because they were fighting together. In Catching Fire he was determined to protect Katniss in the arena no matter what. So he told Katniss and Haymitch that if he wasn't picked he would volunteer as tribute. When the Hunger Games began he wasn't able to get off of his starting platform so Finnick and Katniss had to swim back to get him. He actually ended up dying in the Hunger Games from one of the traps that were set by the gamemakers. But Finnick knew if he had died then Katniss would give up so he gave Peeta CPR and brought him back to life.

This is Katniss Everdeen. She is the main character of the Hunger Games series. She was a victor in the 74th Hunger Games making her the only female victor currently in District 12. In Catching Fire the next Hunger Games is the Quarter Quell. This year the districts have to send one male and one female victor to fight in the Hunger Games. Since Katniss is the only female victor in her district she is forced to go back into the arena and fight for her life one more time. She thinks that the Capital did this on purpose because they think she is trying to start a rebellion. This time she doesn't think she will come back from the Hunger Games because of all the experienced enemies she will be facing.

Summary

Catching Fire is the second book in the Hunger Games series. Katniss finally thinks she is safe from the Capital's cruel Hunger Games.Every 25 years the Capital does a special Hunger Games called the Quarter Quell. That means Katniss must fight for her life one more time in the arena. When she arrives at the Capital she sees the other victors for the first time in person. When the Hunger Games begin she allies herself with some of the "outcast" victors that no body thinks will be any help to them at all. At the end of the book a group of rebels break Katniss and the survivors of her alliance out of the Hunger Games. You find out that these rebels are taking her to district 13 and then the book ends.
